We’re on the lookout for a passionate and driven Head Chef to lead the kitchen team at Churly’s Brewpub, Mt Eden — our flagship location known for its on-site brewery, in-house butchery, and 24 taps of award-winning beer.
This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for an experienced Head Chef or a Senior Sous Chef ready to step up and make their mark in a dynamic, creative, and collaborative environment.

You’re a culinary leader with a strong understanding of modern food trends, menu development, and food styling — ideally with experience that complements a brewery and butchery-focused offering.
You thrive in a fast-paced environment, lead by example, and are confident managing a kitchen team while staying on top of costs, systems, and standards.
Purpose of the Role
To drive growth in food sales and profitability by developing a kitchen culture that champions creativity, quality, and consistency — while working closely with the Head of Hospitality to align with overall venue strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all kitchen operations with excellence and efficiency
Design and evolve seasonal menus and weekly specials
Maintain high standards of food presentation and consistency
Oversee food cost management, budgeting, and supplier relations
Train, inspire, and support the kitchen team
Uphold food safety compliance and hygiene standards
Monitor inventory and place accurate orders
Collaborate across departments to deliver great guest experiences
Stay current with food and industry trends
You’ll Bring
A passion for great ingredients and for creativity
Proven experience in a senior chef role (minimum 3 years)
Strong leadership and team development skills
A flair for menu design and an eye for food styling that's fit for purpose
Experience with cost control and budgeting
A proactive, calm, and solution-focused approach
Understanding of food safety regulations and systems
Competency with G-Suite, Microsoft Office, and rostering software
Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and public holidays
Preferred Qualifications
Degree or diploma in culinary arts or related field
Minimum 3 years of experience in a senior chef role
Strong knowledge of food preparation methods and techniques
Strong management and leadership skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations
Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks efficiently
Strong financial management skills
