**WHO ARE WE? KO WAI MĀTOU?**
Every day brings new opportunities when you are part of our team at Taupō District Council. Our diverse organisation is recognised for its vibrant energy, optimism for the future, ambition to act boldly and willingness to do things differently to secure the best result. We take a balanced and community-focused approach that allows us to strive with consideration on behalf of our district. We are motivated by ensuring we are a district of connected communities who thrive and embrace opportunities and hold this greater purpose in mind in all that we do.
**ABOUT THE ROLE - NGĀ ĀHUATANGA O TE TŪRANGA**
As our Digital Communications Advisor, you'll play a key role in bringing Taupō District Council's work to life through smart, engaging and trusted digital communications - with a strong focus on social media.
Working as part of our Communications team, you'll help implement Council's digital communications strategy and lead the day-to-day management of our social media channels. From major projects and consultations to rates, rubbish, roads and community campaigns, you'll translate complex information into clear, accessible messages that help people understand what Council does and why it matters.
This role is about more than writing posts. You'll actively connect with our communities, engage in two-way conversations, and build trust through transparent, respectful and well-judged digital engagement - even when conversations are challenging or politically sensitive. You'll work closely with subject matter experts and content creators to plan campaigns, develop creative content, respond to issues as they arise, and use insights and analytics to continuously improve how we communicate.
You may occasionally be required to work outside standard hours to support urgent or emerging issues. This is a busy part time role, 30 hours per week - Monday to Friday.
**WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR - KEI TE KIMI MĀTOU I TĒNEI MOMO TANGATA**
We're looking for a confident and capable digital communications professional who is social media savvy, creative, and comfortable operating in a public, high-trust environment.
You'll bring experience in digital communications or social media, excellent writing skills, and the ability to turn complex or technical information into content that resonates with a wide range of audiences. You'll have sound judgement, a calm and respectful approach, and the confidence to engage constructively with the public, even under scrutiny.
You'll be a strong collaborator who enjoys working with others, takes ownership of your work, and can juggle multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. An understanding of (or interest in) local government, political environments, and public accountability will be an advantage.
We're also looking for someone who acknowledges Council's Te Tiriti o Waitangi responsibilities and can work respectfully with iwi and Māori communities in digital spaces. You'll value openness, authenticity and continuous improvement, and you'll care about using communications to build understanding, connection and trust with our communities. Alongside your application, we'd love to see examples of social media content or campaigns you've delivered.
**WHAT WE OFFER - NGĀ ĀHUATANGA KEI A MĀTOU**
Our people are accomplished, capable, and driven by curiosity to learn more - about the council, its impact, and their own potential. Your career aspirations will be encouraged, whether you're just starting out or an expert.
Our spaces are filled with warmth and welcoming conversation. We collaborate closely and lead with empathy - for our colleagues and for our community. We encourage our people to find the flexibility within their role to do more of what matters to them in and out of work. When you join us, you'll enjoy our:
* Strong focus on wellness - discounted gym membership and health insurance and wellbeing initiatives to support your mental, physical and financial wellbeing
* Flexible work environment - work from home options and flexible hours to promote a great work-life balance
