Summary: Operate a Reach Stacker safely and efficiently to handle containers within the yard and rail area, supporting smooth operations and minimizing rehandling. Highlights: 1. Opportunity to ensure smooth truck and train turnarounds Position Summary: The Reach Stacker Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient handling of containers within the yard and rail area. This role plays a key part in keeping operations moving, reducing double handling, and supporting train and truck turnarounds.The operator must follow all health and safety rules at all times, complete pre-start checks, and operate equipment in a safe manner to prevent damage to containers, equipment, and infrastructure.The role also requires good communication with yard supervisors, ground staff, and truck drivers to ensure container movements are carried out safely and in the correct order. Key Responsibilities: • Operate the reach stacker safely • Follow all site safety rules and procedures • Complete pre-start checks before use • Lift and move containers as directed • Stack containers in the correct locations • Work safely around trucks, trains, and people • Keep clear of unsafe areas and respect exclusion zones • Report any damage, faults, or safety issues • Park up equipment safely when not in use • Look after the machine and work area • Rail strip/loading: Walk the rail line to safely remove and secure twist locks prior to loading and unloading containers, requiring a good level of physical fitness. • Reefer management: Load and unload reefers at the reefer pit, ensuring temperature-controlled containers are correctly plugged in, monitored, and operating at required temperatures. Required Skills and Qualifications: • Current and valid reach stacker license / certificate of competency • Relevant heavy machinery or container handling certification • Full driver license (as required by site) Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Safety (Non-negotiable) • Zero serious safety breaches • Compliance with safety zones and procedures • Pre-start checks completed every shift • Near misses and hazards reported Damage & Care of Equipment • No avoidable container, truck, wagon, or infrastructure damage • Machinery operated within limits (no overloads, no misuse) • Timely reporting of faults or defects Productivity & Efficiency • Containers moved per shift (within safe operating limits) • Turnaround time for trucks and trains supported • Minimal rehandles and dig-outs caused by poor stacking • Jobs completed in line with yard plan and priorities Accuracy & Yard Management • Containers placed in correct stacks and locations • Stack order maintained • Yard kept organized to avoid future congestion Communication & Teamwork • Clear radio communication with supervisors and ground staff • Follows instructions and changes in priorities • Supports team to keep operations flowing Professional Behavior • Punctuality and attendance • Follows SOPs and site rules • Positive attitude to safety and continuous improvement
