They are eco-friendly native timbers, legally and responsibly sourced. Because these logs lay in the bush for many years before recovery, the timber characteristics may differ from green-sawn, freshly felled Rata. Sold as-is. Collector-grade native timber pieces About Rata Timber (Metrosideros robusta) One of New Zealand’s rarest and densest hardwoods — highly prized by woodworkers and collectors. • Deep red and purple tones with interlocked decorative grain • Density: ~880–1140 kg/m³ • Extremely hardwearing and long-lasting • Excellent for both indoor and outdoor applications • Naturally resistant to decay, abrasion, and impact Pickup & Delivery • Pickup: Kumeu, Auckland (forklift onsite for loading) • Freight Estimate (slab may be cut shorter for transport) • North Island: $100–$200 • South Island: $200–$300 Provenance & Story Recovered between 2012–2013 from a remote, long-dead Rata forest near Mt Taranaki.
