Join a small, close-knit team You’ll carry out on‑site inspections, verify quality and compliance, plan and support safe, efficient delivery of work. You’ll work closely with the small team to ensure standards are met and issues are resolved early across the Kenepuru roading network in the Marlborough sounds. This role requires clearly documented finding with accurate inspection records while taking a practical, problem-solving approach as part of a small, close-knit team. This position ideally suits someone living in, or willing to relocate to, the Linkwater, Havelock, or Kenepuru Sound area. Due to the nature of the network, the role includes participation in an on‑call roster and requires the ability to respond to call‑outs, night‑time incidents, animal hazards, and emergency situations in a timely manner. What You’ll Bring  *Understanding of flexible and rigid pavement structures with the ability to identify: Surface defects (flushing, ravelling, bleeding) Cracking (fatigue, longitudinal, transverse) Potholes and edge breaks Rutting and shoving *Knowledge of chipseal and asphalt surfacing types *Knowledge of drainage systems (culverts, catchpits, kerb & channel) *Experience in: Routine network inspections (urban and rural) Hazard identification and risk assessment Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) with CoPTTM / NZGTTM knowledge Accurate defect logging with GPS referencing (AWM experience a bonus) Photo documentation and condition grading as per FIG (Fault Inspection Guides) Clear, concise reporting to client AWM/RAMM (Road Assessment and Maintenance Management systems) Assessing immediate hazards vs programmed works Incident reporting and emergency response coordination Contractor monitoring and QA verification *Strong compliance with Health & Safety at Work Act 2015 and traffic management requirements *Competent using tablets, mobile inspection apps, Microsoft Excel and reporting tools *Exceptional attention to detail and quality standards *Calm, objective judgement in fast‑moving field conditions *Safety‑focused with a practical understanding of site risks *Class 1 NZ driving licence Desirable but not essential: *Civil construction or roading foreman background *STMS qualification *NCEA or NZQA civil infrastructure qualification *Experience working with local Councils or Waka Kotahi *NOC maintenance contract works What we offer *Competitive remuneration *A supportive team environment where you’re trusted and given the tools to deliver and excel in your career *Access to a range of discounts and benefits including offers of health insurance, wellbeing initiatives, counselling services, discounted fuel card and retail discounts etc. *Relocation contribution will be considered for the right person What next?  If you think you have what it takes to excel in this role, please apply here or send your CV along with a cover letter to recruitment@taycon.co.nz  NOTE - Applicants must have a legal entitlement to live and work in New Zealand (appropriate work visa).
