Professional growth and development with a friendly workplace About the Role As a Cable Jointer, you'll be a key part of our field operations team, supporting the installation, repair, and replacement of underground distribution assets across the region. You'll work alongside experienced professionals, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of projects while representing Northpowers values and commitment to operational excellence. This role offers ongoing development, a strong team culture, and the opportunity to contribute to critical infrastructure that powers our communities. What You'll Be Doing: * Installing, replacing, and repairing low-voltage pillars, cabinets, underground pits, distribution transformers, underground cables, and ring main units up to 24kV * Carrying out jointing and termination work on Cross-Linked Polyethylene and Paper-insulated cables up to 22kV. * Performing electrical safety testing and completing testing sheets * Taking measurements and preparing asbuilt documentation * Conducting asset inspection and network investigations * Performing corrective maintenance on distribution substations and associated equipment * Excavating and reinstating underground cable installation sites * Completing and passing block courses and unit standards as required * Assisting with accurate field documentation, including incident reports, inspections, and asset information * Achieving operational, customer, and regulatory performance targets * Using problem-solving skills to identify issues and implement effective solutions * Maintaining open communication and fostering strong team relationships * Representing Northpower professionally, delivering positive customer experiences aligned with our values * Suggesting improvements to safety practices, work standards, and processes * Ensuring all tools, vehicles, PPE, and equipment are cared for and kept in good condition * Complying with all Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental (HSQE) requirements * Reporting incidents promptly and following all codes of practice, policies, and regulatory standards About You: * Relevant Cable Jointing qualifications in NZ * A valid Class 1 driver licence * At least 3 years experience working as a cable jointer * EWRB registration * Strong safety focus and an excellent safety record * Great communication skills, both written and verbal * Ability to work effectively in a team environment * Physically fit and able to carry out all duties of the role * A positive attitude and commitment to the industry What's in it for you? * Competitive remuneration with a tool of trade vehicle * An in-house well-being programme, a peer support network (Kaitiaki) and EAP services * Life Insurance and group discounted medical insurance * Commitment to professional growth and development * A friendly workplace where people are valued and appreciated * Tailored leadership development in line with our specialised capability framework * Social club, family-friendly events and discounted gym membership along with various retail discounts About us: Northpower is an electricity and fibre network provider for Whangarei and Kaipara, with more than 60,000 connected customers.
