Opportunity to work where craftsmanship is respected **Purpose of the role** The Tile Layer role is a skilled position responsible for the preparation and installation of wall and floor tiles on residential & commercial construction projects. The position requires proven experience and the ability to carry out tiling work independently to a high standard in accordance with New Zealand building codes, manufacturer specifications, and project plans. **Key Duties and Responsibilities** - Read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications - Measure, mark, and prepare wall and floor surfaces for tiling - Prepare substrates including levelling, screeding, and surface treatments - Install waterproofing systems in wet areas in accordance with NZ standards - Mix and apply adhesives, grouts, and sealants to manufacturer specifications - Cut, shape, and install ceramic, porcelain, stone, mosaic, and similar tiles - Ensure tiles are installed accurately with correct spacing, levels, and alignment - Install movement joints, trims, and edge finishes where required - Repair, replace, and re-grout existing tiled surfaces when required - Maintain a clean, safe, and organised worksite - Comply with all workplace health and safety requirements - Use tiling tools and equipment safely and correctly - Work independently or as part of a team to meet project deadlines **Skills, Qualifications, and Experience Required** - Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience as a Tile Layer; or - A New Zealand Level 4 qualification in Wall and Floor Tiling, or an equivalent overseas qualification - Ability to complete skilled tiling work with minimal supervision - Sound knowledge of substrate preparation and waterproofing systems - High level of accuracy and attention to detail - Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual work - Reliable, punctual, and able to meet project timelines - Communicates well in English and can follow instructions clearly - Holds a full NZ driver's licence - Willing to relocate to Taupo should you be successful **Tools and Equipment** The role requires regular use of professional tiling tools and equipment, including tile cutters, grinders, mixers, hand tools, and power tools. These will be provided if you do not have your own. **Reporting** The Tile Layer reports directly to the Director or Site Supervisor.
