The Anatomy of the RoleThis isn't a repetitive assembly line job. It’s 'jobbing' at its finest—varied, challenging, and highly technical. - The 'Turner' (The Creator): You’ll take raw steel and machine it to the exact millimeter. Whether it’s a manual or CNC lathe, you are responsible for creating one-off parts that fit within tolerances thinner than a human hair. - The 'Fitter' (The Surgeon): Once the parts are ready, you’ll bring the machine to life. You’ll align gears, install precision bearings, and connect complex hydraulic and pneumatic systems. - The 'Diagnostician' (The Fixer): You won't just stay in the workshop. You’ll head out to major industrial sites to figure out why a system has failed, take it apart, and engineer the solution on the spot. Who You Are - The Versatile Expert: You hold a trade qualification (like a Level 4 in Mechanical Engineering) and have mastered both fitting and machining. - Blueprint Fluent: You can look at a 2D CAD drawing and see the 3D moving machine in your mind. - Precision-Obsessed: Micrometers and vernier calipers are your best friends.
