Engineering Manager – Structural Steel Fabrication Full-time | NZ-Based | Small Team Environment (6 – 12 staff) | Backed by a National Parent Company About the Company We are a trusted structural steel fabrication business with a team of 6–12 skilled staff, supported by a strong national parent company. We deliver high-quality engineering and fabrication services across a range of structural projects. Due to continued growth and a change in the company ownership in the New Year, we are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our operations, technical delivery, and team. ________________________________________ About the Role As the Engineering Manager, you will oversee all day-to-day operations of the business, ensuring high-quality project outcomes, commercial performance, and effective team leadership. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines technical expertise, commercial acumen, and strong people management. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities Commercial Management, Tendering & Cost Control • Lead the full tendering and quoting process, including labour, materials, and overhead estimation. • Review contract documents to identify risks and opportunities. • Establish and monitor project budgets, implementing robust cost-control measures. • Prepare monthly claims and check client invoices. • Provide financial reporting on project performance and cash flow in collaboration with the finance team. • Negotiate commercial terms with clients, contractors, and suppliers. • Build and maintain strong client and supplier relationships. Operations, Technical Oversight & Quality • Produce shop drawings and material lists using AutoCAD. • Oversee workshop fabrication, production scheduling, and material flow. • Manage QA/QC processes, ensuring compliance with AS/NZS 1554 and relevant standards. • Coordinate NDT and inspection requirements. • Liaise with site teams to ensure safe, smooth, and efficient installation activities. Health, Safety & Compliance • Lead health and safety processes in line with NZ legislation. • Conduct or coordinate risk assessments, audits, and toolbox talks. • Promote a strong safety culture across the business. • Lead incident and accident investigations. • Provide regular reporting to the National Health & Safety Manager.
