Our client is seeking an experienced Welder/Fabricator who enjoys working from drawings, takes pride in quality workmanship, and wants the opportunity to grow into a leadership role. You'll be instrumental in developing the fabrication side of the workshop and, as the workload grows, have the chance to step into a supervisory position and build your own team.
About the role:
Working within a small, highly skilled team, you'll be responsible for fabricating and welding structural steel components while helping establish a stronger, more consistent fabrication workflow.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Fabricating structural steel, columns and related components
- Reading and interpreting fabrication drawings
- MIG welding structural steel and TIG welding where required
- Operating workshop machinery including bandsaws, presses, punches, shears and grinders
- Maintaining quality standards and documentation requirements
- Supporting workshop productivity and fabrication planning
- Occasional site-based welding and installation work
What we're looking for:
- Trade qualification in Fabrication/Welding (Level 4 or equivalent)
- At least 5 years' fabrication and welding experience with sound MIG welding experience, with TIG capability advantageous
- Experience within power generation, substations, energy or heavy industrial environments
- Strong structural steel fabrication skills
- Ability to work independently from drawings
- Experience operating fabrication machinery
- Strong attention to detail and quality documentation
- Excellent communication skills and a team-first attitude
- Exposure to ISO quality systems
- Leadership potential and a desire to progress your career
What's on offer:
- Excellent hourly rate depending on experience
- Stable, permanent position with long-term career prospects
- Monday to Friday hours – enjoy your weekends
- Primarily workshop-based work with occasional site projects
- Company vehicle provided for site work
- Southern Cross medical insurance after 6 months
- Genuine progression opportunity into a Team Leader role
- Supportive, close-knit team environment
Next Steps:
This role offers something increasingly rare – the opportunity to join a growing workshop where you can genuinely influence the direction of the fabrication function.
