About the role:
The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of in-field operations including pest and disease, staff supervision, record keeping, harvest and machinery tasks. They will cover in house training, induction of teams, running of teams and general orchard practice leadership. This role will require general knowledge of all growing aspects of apple production and quality control. This is a safety sensitive role.

About the role
Employed in our horticulture division, you'll be the driving force behind the success of our orchards in the Central Hawkes Bay. You'll oversee everything from planning and managing apple growing operations to ensuring the health of crops, organising labour, and keeping things running safely & smoothly during harvest. You'll lead and inspire a team, and make sure everyone is on the same page to achieve great results. Budgeting, forecasting, and keeping an eye on financial performance will be key, as well as ensuring compliance with industry standards and health & safety regulations. With a focus on continuous improvement, you'll be hands-on in creating a safe, efficient, and productive environment that drives the apple business forward.
Key responsibilities
Reporting to our Business Manager - Apples, this is a "hands-on" position where you'll be responsible for:
• Overseeing apple growing operations for apple orchards under direct management
• Providing leadership, direction and a positive culture by engaging and inspiring teams

About the role:
Are you ready to tackle the role as Spray Operator/Orchard Hand? Join our team and become a crucial part of our mission to cultivate thriving crops and maintain our beautiful apple orchards.
As our Spray Operator/Orchard Hand, you'll be at the forefront of our spraying operations, understanding weather patterns, ensuring the health and vitality of our crops while adhering to strict safety protocols and compliance standard and agrichemical use. But that's not all – you'll also dive into a variety of other tasks, from mowing and weed spraying to property maintenance and tree husbandry work. Every day will bring new challenges and opportunities to showcase your skills and make a real impact.
We offer $24.50 and $30.00 per hour depending on your experience and a minimum 30 hours of work per week.
You'll need:
• Legal right to work in New Zealand as defined by Immigration New Zealand
• Current New Zealand driver's License
• A strong commitment to health and safety, with a safety-first attitude that guides everything you do
• 3 Years of experience in operating horticultural plant
• Previous experience in spraying crops is preferred, but not essential – we're willing to train the right candidate
• Flexibility to work varied hours, especially around spraying schedules and maintenance tasks
• A Grow Safe certificate would be a definite advantage
• Mechanical prowess and the ability to operate and maintain a wide range of machinery and tools
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively liaise with team members and stakeholders
• A positive attitude and a knack for fostering a supportive and collaborative team culture
• The ability to implement and communicate job sheets accurately and efficiently
