Hands-on role operating spray equipment and managing chemical handling SPRAY OPERATOR About the Role: As a Spray Operator, you’ll play a critical frontline role supporting our Gisborne farming operations. You’ll be responsible for the safe, accurate and timely application of agrichemicals, ensuring spray programmes are delivered to plan and meet compliance, environmental and food safety standards. Working closely with production, agronomy, irrigation, engineering and farm teams, you’ll help maintain crop health, protect product quality and ensure high standards. This is a hands-on role operating spray equipment, managing chemical handling and calibration, and maintaining machinery. Strong attention to detail, communication and a commitment to safety are essential. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Spray application & accuracy: Deliver safe, precise spraying in line with programmes and best practice Monitor conditions, equipment performance and coverage Agrichemical handling & compliance: Mix, handle and store chemicals safely Follow all regulatory and company requirements Calibration & records: Maintain accurate spray records and chemical usage Ensure equipment is calibrated and compliant Machinery & maintenance: Complete pre-start checks, cleaning and basic maintenance Work with engineering to keep equipment running well Safety & teamwork Uphold high health and safety standards Work closely with the wider farm team ABOUT YOU Experience & Qualifications: Experience in agriculture, horticulture or farm operations preferred 2+ years operating spraying or similar machinery preferred Knowledge of spray application, calibration and crop protection Understanding of H&S, environmental and compliance requirements Class 1 licence and Growsafe (or ability to obtain) Skills & Attributes: Detail-focused and safety-conscious Able to identify risks (weather, equipment, application) Strong communication and teamwork Good time management and ability to work under pressure Adaptable and reliable Desirable: Forklift licence WTR, Class 2 or other machinery licences GPS or precision ag experience Machinery maintenance skills First Aid
