A position is available for a shepherd on a 4000ha high country station in Central Otago farming 15,000 stock units of sheep, cattle and deer.
Applicants need to have:
• Shepherding experience
• At least 3 trained working dogs
• Some experience driving a tractor
This position is a great opportunity to get all round experience on a high-country station. Gaining knowledge in
• mustering stock and stock management
• farm technology including halter collars
• winter cropping
• feed management and budgeting
• animal health plans
• weighing and finishing stock
• working with deer including velveting stags
• working with other shepherds
Support and training opportunities are provided to employees who are committed to improving their own knowledge. There is a good house available on farm.
The position predominantly involves stock work. However, we drill 400ha of crop/grass yearly and feed out silage in winter so depending on the applicant’s ability and desire this could be a larger part of the job description.
The farm is situated 15 minutes from Millers Flat, Central Otago. We have a great community with lots to offer from rugby, jobs opportunities for family members, great hunting and fishing and lots more community groups and activities. Applicants must have NZ residency and a driver’s license
