Develop commercial judgement and improve bid quality We are working on behalf of a leading civil contractor to appoint an experienced Civil Estimator to join their Masterton-based commercial team. This is a key role supporting the preparation and delivery of competitive tenders across a strong pipeline of civil infrastructure projects. Operating within a Tier 1 environment, the business delivers essential roading and infrastructure works across the region and maintains long-term client relationships across both public and private sectors. With continued infrastructure investment and improved regional connectivity, the organisation is well placed to benefit from ongoing infrastructure activity and a consistent flow of tendering opportunities. This role offers exposure to complex civil projects while maintaining the benefits of a regional base and strong work-life balance. At its core, this is a hands-on estimating role where commercial awareness, technical understanding, and attention to detail come together. You will be involved across a broad range of civil disciplines including earthworks, drainage, pavements, and surfacing, contributing directly to the preparation of accurate, competitive, and risk-aware tenders. The role The Civil Estimator will be responsible for managing the end-to-end tender process, including reviewing drawings and specifications, developing pricing strategies, coordinating supplier and subcontractor inputs, and preparing detailed submissions. Working closely with the Commercial Manager and delivery teams, you will ensure tenders are commercially robust, methodologically sound, and aligned with delivery realities. The role also involves post-tender review and continuous improvement, using project feedback and market insight to strengthen future bids. What we are looking for This role suits someone with a solid foundation in civil estimating who is looking to further develop within a structured, Tier 1 environment. You will be confident working with detailed information, managing deadlines, and balancing commercial and technical considerations. Experience in civil construction or roading projects is essential, along with exposure to tendering processes and subcontractor engagement. A practical, solutions-focused mindset and strong communication skills will be key. Ideal experience - 2-3+ years’ civil estimating experience - Exposure to Tier 1 or large civil contracting environments - Earthworks, drainage, pavements, and roading experience - Hands-on tender preparation and pricing experience - Strong commercial and risk awareness - Proficiency with CCS Candy, Benchmark, and Microsoft Project - Familiarity with NZS 3910:2013 contracts - Strong stakeholder and supplier engagement skills What success looks like Success is reflected in accurate, competitive tenders that support strong project outcomes and win rates.
