Opportunity to build a career in the electricity industry We're looking for a motivated Trainee Line Mechanic to join our Contracting team at Northpower. About the Role: As a Trainee Line Mechanic, you'll support our crews in the construction and maintenance of overhead electrical lines. You'll receive ongoing training, mentoring, and development opportunities while completing block courses and working toward industry recognised qualifications. This is a physical, outdoors role where no two days are the same. You'll learn how to safely operate equipment, work at heights, and contribute to building and maintaining essential network infrastructure. What You'll Be Doing: * Assisting with the construction and maintenance of electrical lines to meet customer and network requirements * Learning to develop work plans for overhead lines and equipment * Operating ground and structuremounted electrical equipment up to 33kV (with training) * Installing, replacing, and maintaining poles, structures, and conductors * Overhauling nonload-bearing hardware on networks up to 110kV * Completing block courses and unit standards on time * Supporting the team with accurate paperwork, including inspections and incident reports * Working safely while upholding Northpower's quality, environmental, and regulatory standards * Looking after issued tools, PPE, and equipment * Contributing to team productivity, positive customer experiences, and continuous improvement About You: * NZ Full Driver Licence * Experience working at heights * A great attitude and willingness to learn * Strong commitment to health and safety * Good written and verbal communication * Ability to work in a team environment * Physical fitness to perform the role * Passion for building a career in the electricity industry What's in it for you? * Competitive remuneration * An in-house well-being programme, a peer support network (Kaitiaki) and EAP services * Life Insurance and group discounted medical insurance * Commitment to professional growth and development * A friendly workplace where people are valued and appreciated * Tailored leadership development in line with our specialised capability framework * Social club, family-friendly events and discounted gym membership along with various retail discounts About us: Northpower is an electricity and fibre network provider for Whangarei and Kaipara, with more than 60,000 connected customers.
