Description

Summary: Auric Electrical seeks a self-directed Electrical Engineer to own the design function for Class 1-5 solar systems across diverse sectors, working directly with the projects division director. Highlights: 1. Own the design function for solar systems, ensuring compliance and quality. 2. Work independently and collaboratively in a growing business. 3. Shape outcomes and contribute to building the project delivery framework. The work is real. So is the opportunity. Auric Electrical is one of Canterbury's most active electrical and solar contractors. We design and install solar energy systems across residential, commercial, Agri and utility-scale sectors - and we are growing fast. This role exists because the engineering workload has outgrown the current team. We need someone who can own the design function properly - not assist with it. Class 1-5 system design, grid connection applications, earthing methodology, cable schedules, framing design, document control and QA. The full picture. You will work directly alongside the Director who leads the projects division, taking defined functions off his plate from day one. What the Role Covers • Technical support to our sales team - working with them to scope, design and price jobs accurately before they go to clients. This is where vision becomes reality. • Design of class 1-5 solar systems for commercial, Agri and utility-scale projects • Ensuring all designs meet NZ electrical standards, codes, legislation and client expectations • Working with networks and network engineers from application through to energisation • Working with the field crew to translate design into installation - including switchboards, AC, DC, inverter, earthing, communications and SCADA control • Framing system design - roof inspection, aligning manufacturer specifications and engineering certificates • Construction of documentation packages supporting the project process - engineering certificates, electrical design works, field work packs, site-specific drawings, QA and handover packs • Building relationships with key suppliers and procurement of materials when required • Owning document control and quality assurance within the projects division - including our subcontractor team • For utility-scale projects: working across multiple disciplines - civil, structural, HV and earthing engineers - as our engineering lead within a broader construction contract • Contributing to building the project delivery framework - a business priority right now What We Are Looking For • EWRB registered engineer with 3 to 5 years post-qualification experience focused on solar • Level 7+ engineering qualification or actively working toward it - this is the core technical requirement of the role • Demonstrated solar system design experience - commercial or utility scale preferred • Familiarity with NZ grid connection processes and network requirements • Experience with work pack preparation, single line and schematic diagrams in accordance with AS/NZS standards • Organised and process-driven - you do documentation properly because you understand why it matters • Comfortable in a fast-moving SME where you are self-directed and your work is visible • Canterbury-based or genuinely ready to relocate to Ashburton Why Ashburton This is not a consolation prize for missing out on a Christchurch role. Ashburton has changed. Lower cost of living, no traffic, a lifestyle that people actively choose. If you want to own a house while doing meaningful work on complex projects - this is worth a proper look. What Auric Offers • Competitive salary $100,000 to $130,000 depending on experience • Direct exposure to some of the most technically complex solar work being done in Canterbury right now • A genuine development pathway for an engineer who wants to go deep and build real technical capability • The combination of being trusted to work independently and collectively in a team environment • Opportunities to work both in the field and in the office • A role with real scope - your contribution is visible and it matters • A chance to shape actual outcomes - we listen, we implement, we improve together • A business that is growing and a role that will evolve with it • A culture that appreciates your work as well as you as a person To Apply Send your CV and a brief cover note explaining your solar design experience to paige@auricltd.co.nz
