Description

Summary: Proctor Auctions seeks a motivated leader to manage day-to-day auction operations, catalogue items, stage lots, provide customer service, and handle goods. Highlights: 1. Lead daily operations in a fascinating auction industry 2. Connect history with new homes as part of a supportive team 3. Gain industry expertise with career growth opportunities Are you a high-energy person who loves history and interesting objects? Proctor Auctions is a third-generation family business in Dunedin, and we are looking for a motivated leader to join our George Street team. We have been a staple of the Otago community for over 40 years, specialising in everything from antique jewellery to full estate clearances. At Proctor Auctions, we are more than just a sales room; we are a supportive group of experts who take pride in connecting history with new homes. We are traditional at heart but modern in our methods, using our own bidding app to reach customers across New Zealand. This is a rare chance to get your foot in the door of the fascinating auction industry and take charge of our day-to-day operations. **What you will do:** - Manage the day-to-day operations of our busy North Dunedin auction rooms. - Lead the intake and cataloguing of fascinating auction items. - Coordinate with the team to stage and prepare lots for our regular auctions. - Take high-quality photos of auction goods for our online catalogues and mobile app. - Interact with our diverse community of buyers and sellers, ensuring top-tier customer service. - Assist with the physical intake and handling of furniture and estate goods. **What you will bring to the table:** - Leadership and Reliability: You are organised, punctual, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. - Physical Capability: This is a hands-on role where you will be moving furniture and handling goods daily. - Clean NZ Driver's License (Manual): You can drive a manual vehicle for estate pick-ups and clearances. - A Can-Do Attitude: You are a quick learner who is not afraid to take initiative and get stuck into the work. - Effective Communication: You are comfortable talking to customers and providing friendly, professional service. **Great if you also have:** - An interest in history, antiques, or collectables. - Experience with digital photography or online listing management. - Prior experience in retail management or a warehouse environment. - An interest in learning the craft of auctioneering. **The Rewards:** - Industry Expertise: Learn the world of auctions from the ground up with one of the South Island’s most established families. - Variety Every Day: No two days are the same—one day you are cataloguing diamonds, the next you are managing a liquidation sale. - Supportive Team: Join a local, family-owned business where your contribution is truly valued. - Competitive Pay: A salary range of $50,000 to $60,000 annually, depending on your experience. - Career Growth: Real opportunities to develop specialised skills in appraising, cataloguing, and auctioneering. If you are a practical, motivated person who loves history and a challenge, we want to hear from you! **How to apply** Apply with your CV and a short cover letter explaining why this role interests you. PS: we’re not accepting applications via any other channel; please **apply via Trade Me only**. Applicants must currently have the legal **right to work in New Zealand**.
