




Summary: Seeking a compassionate and intuitive Community Support Worker to help young adults with disabilities live fulfilling lives by building trust and fostering independence. Highlights: 1. Help individuals explore new opportunities and maintain connections. **Community Support Worker - Residential** Part-time - 30 hours per week $23.50 - $29.10 per hour Upper Hutt location We’re looking for an amazing staff member to work with 2 young men and 1 woman ranging in age from 19 to 30. The 3 flatmates have loving and supportive families, who continue to be very involved in their kids' lives, so as well as building trust with the flatmates, you’ll need to build trust with families too. You will work closely with them to support the flatties to live their best lives. You will enjoy being involved in their lives and seeing them actively exploring new opportunities in their home and neighborhoods. You'll need to have humour, warmth, good energy and the initiative to organize things that make life fun for these fabulous young people. They communicate in a variety of ways; gestures, some words, vocalizations, facial expressions, and some communication devices and tools. A key skill is being intuitive and patient, so you can really tune in to what's going on for each person and respond to them. This is very much about making this house into their home for this next phase of their life after leaving their family home. With your help, these wonderful people will continue to lead good lives, enjoying and exploring whatever their neighborhoods has to offer and keeping connected with their whanau and friends. As the flatmates have physical support needs, your role as a support worker will include intimate care like helping to go to the toilet and have showers. You will need to be respectful and intuitive as you do this and be vigilant to their physical health and emotional comfort, giving them as much voice, choice and control as possible. You’ll need to be fit enough to push a wheelchair and willing to get in the swimming pool to enjoy some fun water play. **Skills & Experience** - Empathy for the challenges of trying to build an ordinary life while living with a disability - Energy to keep up with someone who likes to be on the go a lot - Ability to remain calm, and calming, in all situations - Resilience to help people keep boundaries to ensure their safety - Good at explaining and negotiating - Ability to communicate effectively and supportively with family, colleagues and the person you support - Ability and willingness to provide support and motivation with personal cares and daily living skills - Excellent, clear, understandable verbal and written English is a pre-requisite to be considered for this role **** **The ideal candidate will have:** - An interest in attaining a Community Support Worker Level Three or above qualification- we can support you to achieve this while you work - Experience supporting people with disabilities, and or mental health issues, and/or behaviours that can be challenging is desirable but not necessary - Reliability, commitment, and passion for working with people - A full New Zealand driver's licence - Able to pass a NZ police check - The ability to use a computer effectively, including programs such as Word, Internet Explorer, and email If you are a non-resident applying for this role you must meet the following INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered: • Have worked in the care workforce for 3 years or more, and been paid at least the care workforce wage rate during that time, or• A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) — this must be at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2. **The Spectrum Group is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
