About the Role We’re looking for a talented Head Pastry Chef to lead and oversee the pastry team. This senior culinary role combines advanced technical pastry skills with mentoring and leadership abilities to ensure high-quality delivery and efficient day-to-day operations. You’ll take the lead in crafting premium pastry offerings that elevate our food and beverage experience across our venues, including One New Zealand Stadium. You’ll be working in a newly built, state-of-the-art kitchen designed specifically for high-performance pastry production. Reporting to the Executive Chef Production, the Head Pastry Chef plays a key role in building the pastry team's capabilities and driving efficient production, maintaining a steady workflow, ensuring food safety, hygiene, and consistency across the pastry team operations. What You’ll Do • Led and supervised the pastry team, with a focus on training, mentoring, and motivating team members to continuously develop their skills and capabilities • Oversee the planning, preparation, cooking, and presentation of all pastry items, ensuring consistency, visual appeal, and delightful taste • Works closely with the Executive Chef Production in the planning, design and development of pastry menus and recipes with the use of local produce, with an eye on seasonality and to a level that reaches guests' expectations • Manage the pastry section of the kitchen, ensuring that a cohesive working atmosphere is maintained • Maintain and oversee pastry equipment, ensuring they are clean, safe, and in optimal working condition to support efficient production and compliance with health and safety standards • Uphold strict standards of food safety, hygiene, and health & safety compliance What You’ll Bring • Proven experience as a Head Pastry Chef, Head Baker or Senior Sous Pastry Chef in a high-volume kitchen • Strong leadership and team management skills • In-depth knowledge of pastry techniques and presentation • Expertise in seasonal ingredients, menu design and pastry trends • Creative problem-solving skills to manage the fast-paced, high-pressure commercial kitchen It’s an exciting time to join Venues Otautahi and you’ll have the opportunity to help shape our future as part of our passionate and hard-working team.
