Land and Environment Manager/Kaiwhakahaere Taiao| Whāngārā Farms Be part of our legacy – a unique once in a lifetime career opportunity to make a real difference! Whāngārā Farms, just north of Gisborne is a Māori-owned, values-led farming collective with deep roots in the whenua and a bold vision for future generations. Guided by our 100-year Whenua Optimisation Plan He Rau Ake Ake – we are restoring the mauri of our land through sustainable practice, and established science grounded in kaitiakitanga, mātauranga Māori and environmental leadership. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Land and Environment Manager/Kaiwhakahaere Taiao to guide and deliver projects across biodiversity, forestry, land development, and infrastructure – ensuring all work reflects our cultural values, protects the integrity of the whenua, and strengthens our ties to whānau and hapū. Whangara Farms consists of 7 properties managed by the Chief Executive reporting to the Board. Total land area is 9,000 hectares, with approximately 7,600 hectares being farmed and the balance supporting native vegetation, planted forest, retired areas and wetlands. Key Responsibilities: o The implementation of relevant "He Rau Ake Ake" projects o Biodiversity restoration, enhancement & monitoring o Sustainable forestry management o Whenua (Land) development & soil conservation o Infrastructure stewardship, maintenance & upgrades o Stakeholder engagement (hapū, iwi, agencies, community) o Team leadership & compliance Skills & Experience: o Relevant bachelor’s degree preferred but not essential. o Mātauranga Māori expertise preferred or willingness to learn. o 5+ years' hands on experience in a similar role o Strong understanding of environmental legislation in Aotearoa. o Excellent project management, communication & leadership skills o Excellent knowledge of ecosystem restoration principles and commercial forest work o Experience working with diverse groups of people o Knowledge of herbicides & pest control techniques o Connections to and management of reputable suppliers & contractors About Whāngārā Farms: Committed to kaitiakitanga, we balance economic productivity with ecological restoration and cultural preservation.
