Midnight Shanghai is a modern Chinese restaurant, dim sum & cocktail bar with karaoke rooms, upstairs at Riverside Market in Christchurch. We’re part of the Double Dribble group (12+ venues across CHC) and we’re looking for a hands-on Bar Manager to lead our bar and FOH team into a big 2026. The Role You’ll be the go-to leader on the floor for all things bar and beverage, while supporting the overall FOH & venue operation. This is a rostered nights-and-weekends role in a busy, late-night environment. Key responsibilities: • Lead the bar & FOH team on shift – set the tone for service, sales and guest experience • Own the bar: stock control, ordering, COGS, menu execution, cleanliness & presentation • Train, coach and develop bartenders & FOH on cocktails, wine, service and upselling • Build systems: checklists, EOD reports, training plans and service standards • Follow and supervise rosters within wage budgets, supported by Restaurant Manager • Work with our marketing team on bar specials, events, karaoke promos & content ideas • Act as Duty Manager on shift, ensuring FCP, licensing & health and safety compliance, leaders of the FOH team. About You • 2+ years in a bar or restaurant management / senior DM role (high-volume preferred) • Strong cocktail, wine and basic spirits knowledge • Confident leading teams of 10 on a busy night of the whole floor when needed, calm under pressure • Proven experience with rostering, stock control, ordering system and understand basic P&L/ COGS • Great communicator – clear, fair, professional, and not afraid of honest feedback • Positive, solutions-focused, enjoys training and growing people, not just behind the bar on shifts • Current Manager’s Certificate, or able to obtain quickly • Applicants must have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa What We Offer • $27.50 per hour, can discuss based on experience • Free staff meal on shift & staff discounts across 10+ Double Dribble venues • Strong support from restaurant manager, group admin and marketing teams • Progression opportunities to management Hours: Full-time, rostered nights & weekends, including some public holidays.
