




Summary: This role involves undertaking maintenance on vessels, supporting engineering crew with plant and machinery duties, and working onshore on maintenance and project tasks, while leading safety. Promote a high-performance ethos and drive Zero Harm safety culture Position Description * Walk On/Walk Off opportunity * Permanent position * Wellington based He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role: Our Maintenance Engineers are responsible for undertaking maintenance onboard our vessels as directed by the First Engineer and Senior Maintenance Engineer. Your main responsibilities include supporting the onboard engineering crew to carry out maintenance duties on all engines, plant and machinery for the ships. You will also be required to work onshore in our workshops to carry out maintenance tasks or project work. Health and Safety is an important part of how KiwiRail operates. You will be a safety leader and will be expected to “walk the safety talk” and lead by example and drive our Zero Harm safety culture. Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What (skills) you will bring: The successful applicant will have: * A trade certificate in a heavy machine field * Experience in a heavy machinery environment * A high level of comfort working in a marine environment * Experience with diesel engine maintenance is desirable * The ability to learn and come up to speed on marine systems and operations * A sound knowledge of safe engineering work practices and procedures * A sound knowledge of Safety, Quality & Risk management systems * Good IT skills with the ability to learn job specific software systems The expectation is that you will promote a high-performance ethos, which is required to provide a timely and effective service for the shore workshop and wider Interislander operation.
