In my tests it delivered a visibly shallower depth of field than recent f2.8 and 3.5 versions, without ever compromising on sharpness which remained crisp into the corners. And while some barrel distortion and vignetting were visible, both can be effectively corrected with lens compensations. I’m also fond of Sigma’s vintage styling and metal construction that extends to the supplied hood. It would have been nice if the weather sealing extended beyond the mount and the aperture ring had been de-clickable, both now common features on Sony’s lenses, but the overall package remains hard to beat.
