Project Engineer - Roading & Infrastructure Maintenance
Wairoa
We are partnering with a leading civil infrastructure contractor to secure a Project Engineer for a key road maintenance and renewals contract in Wairoa.
You’ll play a central role in delivering a mix of planned maintenance, renewals, and reactive works across the network. This position offers a strong blend of site leadership and project coordination.This is a hands-on role at the heart of a critical transport network - supporting the delivery of safe, reliable roads that local communities depend on every day.
You must be based in Wairoa or nearby. Commuting from Gisborne is considered viable; however, longer-distance commuting is not sustainable for this role.
The Role:
- Lead crews and take ownership of day-to-day site operations
- Plan, programme, and coordinate labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors
- Deliver both planned works and emergency response activities
- Ensure compliance with consents and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs)
- Drive quality and commercial outcomes through QA, audits, claims, and reporting
- Monitor KPIs and contract performance, identifying improvements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with council and key stakeholders
About You
- Experience in civil infrastructure
- Strong planning, programming, and coordination capability
- Proven leadership experience managing site teams
- Solid understanding of QA processes and contract administration
- Relevant qualification (BE, NZCE, Diploma) preferred
