**Community Support Worker - Residential** Part time - 16 hours per week $23.50 - $29.10 per hour Upper Hutt location We have a lovely home in Upper Hutt, where 4 young adults aged 21-24 live, with 24 hr support from a great staff team. We’re looking for casual staff to join us, to help people live their best lives. The 4 flatmates have loving and supportive families, who continue to be very involved in their kids lives, so as well as building trust with the flatmates, you’ll need to build trust with families too. You will enjoy being involved in their lives and seeing them actively exploring new opportunities in their home and neighbourhood. You'll need to have humour, warmth, good energy and the initiative to organise things that make life fun for these fabulous young people. They communicate in a variety of ways; gestures, some words, vocalisations, facial expressions, and some communication devices and tools. A key skill is being intuitive and patient, so you can really tune in to what's going on for each person and respond to them. With your help, these wonderful people will continue to lead good lives, enjoying and exploring whatever their neighbourhood has to offer and keeping connected with their whanau and friends. As the flatmates have physical support needs, your role as a support worker will include intimate care like helping to go to the toilet and have showers. You will need to be respectful and intuitive as you do this and be vigilant to their physical health and emotional comfort, giving them as much voice, choice and control as possible. You’ll need to be fit enough to push a wheelchair and willing to get in the swimming pool to enjoy some fun water play. **The ideal candidate will have:** - Excellent, clear, understandable verbal and written English is a pre-requisite to be considered for this role - Able to pass a NZ police check - Experience supporting people with disabilities, and or mental health issues, and/or behaviours that can be challenging is desirable but not necessary - Reliability, commitment, and passion for working with people - A full New Zealand driver's licence - An interest in attaining a Community Support Worker Level Three or above qualification- we can support you to achieve this while you work - The ability to use a computer effectively, including programs such as Word, Internet Explorer, and email **What you'll get from us:** - A supportive and collaborative work environment - Development opportunities and continuing education - we provide support to obtain NZQA Level 2, 3 and 4 Health and Wellbeing qualifications - The opportunity to support people with disabilities to live great lives! Community Support Worker - Residential Part time - 20 hours per week $23.50 - $29.10 per hour Upper Hutt location Spectrum Care provides support to people with intellectual disabilities in several locations in the North Island. We have an existing home in Trentham, Upper Hutt where 3 people in their early 30's currently enjoy living while being supported 24/7 by staff. We currently have a part time role available where you will get to spend time with the flatties and join their very busy social lives. You'll need to gain not only their trust and confidence, but that of their families, by being a great communicator, being transparent, supportive and understanding, and working in respectful partnership with them. The two women and one male have their own interests and personalities, so you'll need to get to know them and what makes them tick. They enjoy swimming, gardening, opera, going out for a meal, music, library, Lego and games- sometimes they may want company and liveliness, sometimes peace and quiet. The flatties need some hands-on support for daily living, like bathing and showering, continence, and also household tasks like making tasty healthy meals and general cleaning. They communicate in a variety of ways, gestures, some words, vocalisations, facial expressions, and some communication devices and tools. A key skill is being intuitive and patient, so you can really tune in to what's going on for each person and respond to them. With your empathy and initiative, these wonderful people will continue to lead good lives, enjoying and exploring whatever their neighbourhood has to offer and keeping connected with their whanau and friends.
