These now go for anywhere from $14-25k on reverb.\r\nSo, I’ve tried to recreate a more cost-effective version. And it’s gone through some changes since…\r\nFirst, I bought an American deluxe black strat. Mint condition. Maple board, locking tuners etc. Had a green pickguard with (some quite nice sounding) N3 noiseless pickups installed.\r\nI then imported from the USA a recreation of the Gilmour black strat wiring/ pickups/ pickguard etc. from Overdrive custom guitar works. This included the unique wiring and extra 2-way switch which the black strat has. Also, the identical Custom ‘69/ Fat ‘50s and upgraded SSL-IC DG RW/RP pickups to the original (and a bunch of other stuff- see list in photos). This all cost around $1200 NZD landed and installed.\r\nThis got the guitar sounding fabulously like the DG version….but unfortunately my limited talent did not get me sounding like the man himself…\r\nSo, after I while I swapped out the DG pickups for some Epic Klein 59’s. Again, a sweet sound. ($313 NZD plus install)\r\nAnd then I swapped out the bridge pickup for a (single coil sized, so no routing of the body of the guitar) Hot rails humbucker, to give the bridge a bit more grunt and turn it into a SSH-style strat.\r\nAnd that’s where it currently is.\r\n\r\nGreat guitar.
