Work in a supportive, safety-focused team environment Plastic Technician - Dayshift Hexatronic New Zealand – Porirua Hexatronic NZ is excited to offer an opportunity to join our dynamic production team as a Plastic Technician. As New Zealand’s most experienced provider of Air Blown Fibre ducting products and solutions, we are committed to quality, innovation, and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. Position Details • Shift Pattern: o Week 1: 3 × 12-hour shifts o Week 2: 1 x 8 hour and 3 × 12-hour shifts • • Total: 80 hours per fortnight • Location: Porirua, Wellington About the Role This hands-on role suits a technically capable and detail-oriented individual with experience in plastic extrusion and production manufacturing. You will play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production in line with Hexatronic NZ’s specifications. Key Responsibilities • Operate, monitor, and adjust plastic extrusion machinery to achieve optimal output and product quality • Set up extrusion lines, including start-ups, shutdowns, and changeovers • Manufacture ducting and jacketing products according to drawings, instructions, and specifications • Follow BOMs, Process Control Sheets, and Manufacturing Instruction Sheets • Conduct in-process quality checks, measurements, and visual inspections • Identify and troubleshoot extrusion issues such as melt instability, die build-up, dimensional variation, and surface defects • Perform preventative maintenance and basic mechanical servicing on production equipment • Calibrate machinery and complete line conversions, including changing tips, dies, and tooling • Monitor material usage, scrap levels, and process efficiency • Record production data, process changes, and quality results accurately • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment • Comply with all health, safety, and quality procedures Skills & Experience Required • Experience in production manufacturing, preferably plastic extrusion or polymer processing (not essential) • Understanding of extrusion fundamentals (temperature control, screw speed, pressure, cooling, and haul-off) • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications • Mechanical aptitude with hands-on problem-solving skills • Experience working with quality control systems and measurement tools (calipers, gauges, micrometers) • Familiarity with raw plastic materials and material handling practices • Ability to identify process trends and make controlled adjustments • Basic maintenance and fault-finding skills on industrial machinery • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing consistent, high-quality products • Ability to work shifts and remain focused during long production runs • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a production team • Willingness to learn, upskill, and adapt in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Why Join Hexatronic NZ? • Be part of a fast-growing, innovative production company • Work in a supportive, safety-focused team environment • Develop specialist skills in plastic extrusion and advanced manufacturing
