Five Horizons is a progressive sheep dairy farm based in Mercer, and we are looking to find them an experienced Farm Assistant / Lamb Rearer.  Five Horizons milk 1,200 ewes and rear around 450 replacement lambs each season and therefore this role is hands-on, fast-paced, and ideal for someone who thrives in a structured routine and genuinely enjoys rearing young animals at scale What They’re Looking For You’ll need proven experience in: * Milking sheep - daily milking routines on a commercial dairy farm. * Large-scale lamb rearing - 400+ lambs, from 1–2 days old through to 6 weeks. * Automatic feeding systems - understanding, monitoring, and troubleshooting auto-feeders. * Animal health - recognising early health concerns, supporting barn-raised lambs, and following treatment plans. * General farm work - fencing, feeding, farm maintenance, and assisting with daily barn operations. Roster & Hours * Standard roster: 8 days on / 2 days off, then 8 days on / 3 days off * Hours: 5:30am – 5:30pm * Lambing season roster: 6 days on / 1 day off Requirements * Fit, injury-free, and comfortable with long physical days * Hard-working, reliable, and willing to learn * Previous experience on a dairy farm (sheep dairy preferred) * Must already be eligible to work in New Zealand * Own accommodation and reliable transport * Confident operating a quad bike, side-by-side, and tractor safely What You’ll Be Doing * Milking sheep and caring for ewes * Rearing lambs and supporting their growth through all stages * Running and maintaining automatic lamb-feeding systems * Fencing and general farm maintenance * Tractor operation and daily feeding tasks * Working collaboratively with the team to maintain high welfare standards If you are interested, please apply by clicking the link below and sending through an up-to-date resume.
