Disability / Mental Health Support Worker

Located at the Southern tip of the Coromandel Forest Park, in Hikutaia, we are an intentional community where all members assemble and unite around Keegan, a 29-year old man with high complex needs. All members of this community contribute their own unique gifts in a safe, stress-free sanctuary for all. Around Keegan but not all about him. See www.tepunanga.nz Keegan is an accomplished sing-songwriter who is actively involved in music, outings and socialising within his local community. He has a range of high complex needs; he has his own separate living area in the main house and requires support of a team 24/7. The Role We are looking for someone to join an existing team, working 24-30 hours a week, over a 7 day week period (24/7). Parts of the day are double staffed (with some flexibility required to allow for outings). This position also includes night shifts, which are paid at our undisturbed rate. Be prepared for something new and unique as you will be given the opportunity to use your creative skills to contribute to an intentional community. Duties: - Personal care and experience with mobility equipment (hoists, wheelchairs etc...) - Emotional Support - Assisting with recreational and vocational activities - Meal preparation - Maintaining a tidy and clean environment - Assisting with medication - Working independently yet effectively in a self-managed team Our successful assistants are: - authentic and genuine and willing to commit long term - perceptive of others needs and great communicators - embracing Enabling Good Lives (EGL) principles - demonstrating a high level of professionalism Skills required: - An NZQA level 4 National Certificate in Mental Health and Wellbeing or equivalent qualification - Professionals from other sectors will be considered: nursing, OTs, education,.. - Proven experience in delivering disability and mental health support - Being energetic, passionate about supporting your client towards his goals, hopes and dreams - Ability to create an authentic and genuine rapport with someone with complex needs through provision of consistent support - Initiative and organisational skills - Ability to look beyond barriers and think of ways to always empower your client - Empathy and nurturing personality, with a sense of humour - Honesty, reliability, punctuality - Ability to respectfully work in a whanau environment - Full driving licence The Offer - Job security with competitive rates: $29.10 for disturbed hours and $25 for undisturbed - Paid lunch breaks - Training opportunities for further development - Employee Assistance Program: wellbeing support as you need it - An amazing place to work, close to nature - A position with room for lots of initiative - Family, cozy environment Apply Now: email your resume AND a personalised cover letter detailing how you would contribute meaningfully within this role to “The Manager” at tepunanga.maratoto@gmail.com .
