Exposure to unique plant, systems and infrastructure * May 2026 deployment * McMurdo Base, Antarctica * Adventure of a lifetime **The Role** Hays Recruitment is seeking expressions of interest from an experienced Building Automation / Controls Technician to join the facilities and maintenance team at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. This is a rare opportunity to work on critical building management and control systems supporting the United States Antarctic Program, in one of the most remote and challenging environments in the world. **** **Location: McMurdo Station, Antarctica (approximately 1,000 residents during the summer season, 250 in winter)** **Deployment: May 2026 (6 month deployment)** **Pay: $50 per hour, 54 hour work week** **Your experience should include maintaining and supporting the following systems:** * Building Management Systems (Ideally Alletron BMS systems) / Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems * HVAC control systems, including air handling units, boilers, pumps and fans * Sensors and instrumentation (temperature, flow, pressure, pH, etc.) * Control panels, field devices and control wiring * Fault‑finding, diagnostics, calibration and commissioning of control systems * Reading and interpreting drawings, schematics and control diagrams **What to expect when you're down there:** * Accommodation provided (shared bunkroom style) * Free food (not Michelin‑star, but hearty and plentiful) * Free flights from any major New Zealand airport * $45-$55 per hour depending on engagement type * Work schedule: Monday to Saturday, approximately 7am - 5pm * Exposure to unique plant, systems and infrastructure not found anywhere else in New Zealand **What to expect before you start:** * Medical and dental examinations * Criminal background and security checks * Drug and alcohol screening * Vaccinations as required for deployment * Ability to meet US National Science Foundation deployment requirements Please note: Due to facility access requirements, NZ Work Rights are required for this role. **What to do next** Please apply through the link.
