We’re looking for an
Assistant Service Manager
to support our busy workshop, lead a high-performing team, and ensure our customers receive industry-leading service every time.
What you’ll be doing
Leading & Supervising
Lead and support the Foreman team, monitoring workloads, performance, and workshop productivity.
Oversee daily workshop scheduling, job card allocation, and labour loading to meet productivity targets.
Keep the front-of-house service team updated on job progress and timeframes.
Prepare estimates and quotes as required.
Ensure job cards contain all required information for smooth invoicing and warranty processing.
Maintain workshop tools and equipment to safe standards, reporting issues promptly.
Assist with staff training on equipment and processes.
Build strong, professional relationships with customers.
Cover for the Service Manager during absences.
Maintain workshop cleanliness, stock of general materials, and presentation standards.
Investigate rework, identify root causes (tooling, training, communication, timeframes, workmanship), and recommend solutions.
Monitor start/finish times, productivity, efficiency, and overnight clocking.
Ensure all booked-in work is statuses correctly from start to finish.
Actively participate in daily huddles and toolbox meetings.
Technical & Product Knowledge
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of commercial vehicles to support servicing, repairs, adjustments, and diagnostics when required.
Attend training and courses to grow your technical and leadership capability.
Make effective use of service manuals and specialist tools.
Customer Service
Provide professional, respectful, and helpful service at all times.
Set high standards of workmanship and support the team to deliver quality outcomes.
Be proactive in solving issues and managing priorities within required timeframes.
What you’ll bring
Heavy Diesel Mechanical Qualification.
Current NZ driver licence (minimum Class 4) with a clean record.
5+ years’ experience as an Automotive Technician, or proven experience leading and developing a team.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Hands-on, practical mindset with strong problem-solving ability.
Ability to motivate, influence and support a team.
High levels of organisation and attention to detail.
