Water Technician
New Plymouth | Full-Time | Attractive Hourly Rate + Overtime + On-Call Allowances
We are excited to be working with a well-established infrastructure services contractor to recruit experienced Water Technicians to join their growing team in New Plymouth.

As a Water Technician, you'll play a key role in the operation and maintenance of the drinking water network. You'll be responsible for responding to faults, carrying out repairs and upgrades, undertaking inspections, and ensuring essential water services remain safe and reliable for the community.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Diagnosing and responding to water network faults and emergencies
- Repairing water mains, service connections, valves, hydrants, and meters
- Undertaking inspections and preventative maintenance activities
- Installing and upgrading water infrastructure including manifolds and valves
- Operating plant and equipment such as excavators, pumps, trucks, and compactors
- Working safely within road corridors and traffic-managed environments
- Completing digital job records, reports, photos, and system updates
- Liaising with customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders
- Participating in a shared on-call roster to support emergency response requirements
We're looking for people who take ownership of their work, enjoy solving problems, and thrive in a team environment.
To be successful, you'll ideally have:
- Previous experience working within water reticulation or drinking water networks
- Approximately 4-5 years' experience in a similar role
- A current Class 2 licence (or Class 1 with relevant industry experience)
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities
- Confidence using mobile technology and digital reporting systems
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A proactive approach and willingness to take responsibility
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster (approximately one week per month)
Desirable qualifications include:
- Drinking Water Level 4 qualification
- Experience operating excavators and associated plant
- Infrastructure Works qualifications or similar industry certifications
