Ngai Tahu Farming are seeking a motivated Shepherd General to join our team on a six-month fixed-term basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone keen to grow their skills and gain valuable hands-on experience within a progressive high-country sheep and beef operation over the winter and spring period.You will work closely with the Farm Manager and an experienced on-farm team, supporting day-to-day operations and maintaining high standards of stock work throughout the season.
Mo te teihana – About Greenstone–Elfin Bay Station
Greenstone–Elfin Bay Station is a 25,000ha high-country station carrying approximately 15,000 stock units.
Our operation includes:
* A Perendale sheep flock
* Hereford / Angus cross cattle
The role plays an important part in delivering seasonal stock work and general farm operations across both hill and flat country.
Nga mahi – The Opportunity
The Shepherd General role covers all aspects of sheep and beef farming, including:
* Stock work across hill and flat country
* Pasture management, feed planning and feeding
* Stock rotations and grazing management
* Fencing and general farm maintenance
* Dog work and livestock handling
* Assisting with all seasonal farming operations
This fixed-term role offers strong practical learning and exposure across the farming system, with the chance to build capability in a supportive and forward-thinking team environment.
