About the role | Ko te kaupapa We have an exciting opportunity for a Surface Waters Operator to join our water services team based in Rolleston. This role will suit someone who is good at dealing with a wide variety of people and is able to work alone, as well as being part of a small team. You will be self-motivated, conscientious, analytical and have a good understanding of rural protocols. Key tasks include scheduled checks and reactive maintenance of the surface waters network and urban stock water races. You will be maintaining supply to users, looking after the water race scheme and its river intakes, as well as assisting in general maintenance of the surface waters network. The successful applicant will need to be willing to learn, have a positive outlook and lots of energy, as this is a physically demanding role. Due to growth within our company’s operations, Skevingtons is currently looking for an experienced Hydro Excavation and Vacuum Truck Operator to join our team based in Woodend, on a full-time, permanent basis. Skevingtons is a multidisciplinary family-owned and operated company undertaking projects all around the South Island. Our main operations can be summarised as but not limited to; Earthmoving, Hydro-Excavation, Utility Infrastructure Install/Maintenance and Heavy Haulage/Transport. Minimum work experience and other specifications: • At least three years’ proven experience in operating hydro excavation and vacuum trucks as well as other plant machinery and have a current Dangerous Goods Licence. • A Driver’s Licence with a minimum of full class 4 with the ability to drive manual vehicles is essential. Other licenses and endorsements such as W, T, and R would also be an advantage. • The successful candidate will also be a great communicator and be able to keep accurate records. Combined with a great work ethic, we are looking for someone who can work unsupervised or as part of a team. They must have a strong commitment to Health and Safety and be flexible within their work hours. Along with the above, the ideal candidate will be able to perform the below listed tasks, 1. Operate hydro excavation and vacuum trucks to excavate debris, mud and soil safely 2. Use hydro excavation equipment to locate underground utilities (pipes, cable, conduits) 3. Perform excavation for holes (e.g. poles) or trenching activities 4. Transport waste to disposal sites 5. Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment to ensure operations run safely and efficiency 6. Follow industry best practices and adhere to all site-specific requirements 7. Keep all certification, tickets and licences up to date and current. 8. Display flexibility with operations and maintenance In return, we would offer a solid remuneration package with the opportunity for growth within our company. Approximate payrate ranges between $30ph to $40ph with the agreed hours of work being a minimum of 40 hours per week. Agreed hours of work are from Monday to Friday on contractual basis between the hours of 6:30am and 6:00pm. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and out of base region as required is a must. This position will join the existing trades team on either day or night shift, to help ensure that plant assets are managed and maintained in a way that minimizes processing downtime and enhances the company’s short- and long-term objectives. This role is an integral part of our operation, and we require someone with a positive, can-do attitude and someone who works extremely well within a team.
