Kevin 8yo Mongolian Khan gelding, approx 16hh. Unraced. Kevin is good to shoe, worm and travels well ( truck/ trailer). However can be a bit opinionated with loading on float. He can be bit pushy on the ground at times, ok once corrected, goes best in rope halter. Prefers to be paddocked in company and seriously will get along with anyone (Kevin is paddocked with that one gelding that finds it difficult to get along with others). Overall Kevin is a smoochy horse that loves attention and just wants to be loved. Was purchased in late 2022 as a summer project. From get get-go was a rather busy and reactive horse that could rear and buck at times which I had tried to work through, thinking with more mileage he would mild out. Had a very natural jump and schooled 1/110 with a lot of promise in his first year with me. He was out to training days multiple times at McLeans over the years. Health-wise over the years Kevin had a lot of procedures/xrays/ exams etc performed to help resolve his behavior. Scoped &treated for ulcers 2023 (ulcershield+ sucrosulfate & repeat course ulcershield may 2025 Ruled out KS in 2023 Hock injections 2023 SI treated June 2025 - (vet concluded that he had this issue for a few years) Considering how unhappy Kevin is in work I believe it’s best for him to retire and be a paddock mate. I had tried to make a hacker out of him, however Kevin did let me know that he was not happy to be a “happy hacker”… I feel that there is still something physically bothering him, that causes him to be so unwilling when ridden. Possibly SI treatment didn’t make a difference? Saying that he is 100% paddock sound and doesn’t show any sign of pain/ unhappiness whatsoever. Upto date tetanus &strangles, teeth and farrier (fronts on atm, happy to be unshod ). Rather disappointing ad to write as I really thought this horse could make it as a neat jumper but after nearly 3 years of trying to get him sound for it I think it’s just not meant to be. Approved home only.
