Summary: Seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to innovate and lead quality practices for the Marketplace team, focusing on efficient feature delivery and customer satisfaction. Highlights: 1. Design and lead quality practice in a cross-functional squad. 2. Innovate with AI-assisted testing and drive SRE practices. 3. Mentor engineers and foster a growth culture in quality craft. We are looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to join our Marketplace team. You'll be serving Professional Sellers of new and used goods on Trade Me Marketplace. In this role, you will go beyond simply testing; you will design and lead quality practice in your cross-functional squad. You will play a pivotal role by ensuring quality is considered throughout the delivery lifecycle, from early discovery all the way to observing customer interactions as we scale to all our users in production. Your work will directly contribute to the efficient delivery of fit-for-purpose features that our customers love, ensuring our products work predictably and reliably in production. ** Here is what you can expect from this role:** * Innovate: Experiment with new tools and approaches (including AI-assisted testing) and drive their adoption to make our testing smarter and more efficient. * Maintain Effective Automated Test Frameworks: Work within automated test frameworks, ensuring they're valuable by balancing test speed, coverage and ensuring a low rate of false positives. * Drive SRE Practices: Embed observability into the development lifecycle. You will interpret logs, metrics, and traces to debug complex issues and ensure we meet our System SLOs. * Lead Quality in your Squad: Conduct testing as needed. Facilitate scoping and technical planning, advocating for the right balance of exploratory and automated testing based on risk and context. * Support Growth Culture: Mentor junior to senior engineers, creating a safe environment for learning and upskilling the team in quality craft and automation. **What you will bring to our team:** * A track record of influencing quality culture and technical practices. * Experience in mentoring and coaching other engineers, fostering a high-performance and inclusive environment. * Familiarity with our stack (Playwright, TypeScript, BDD) is a bonus, but we value adaptable engineering skills and the ability to learn new tools quickly. * Manual Testing: Ability to create test plans and conduct manual testing, ensuring that defects are clearly documented and tracked. * Advanced Automation Skills: Proven ability to build and optimize maintainable test automation frameworks (UI, API, Database) that provide rapid feedback. * Architectural Insight: Ability to understand architectural patterns (microservices vs. monoliths) and design testing strategies that align with them. * SRE & Observability: Strong experience with observability tooling (e.g., New Relic) and a solid understanding of Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Error Budgets. * CI/CD Expertise: Understanding of Continuous Delivery principles, with the ability to optimize pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) to eliminate bottlenecks and reduce build times. * Code Craft: You can read and understand code, make minor refactors to improve testability, and treat test code with the same standards as production code. * Influential Communication: Ability to articulate trade-offs, influence stakeholders, and drive alignment on quality initiatives across the engineering organization. You'll have the best time working at Trade Me, and this is why: **#Flexibility:** Flexibility means different things to different people and we support you to find what works, including a home office set up and utilities allowance. We value team connection and come together in person on Monday and at least one other day a week. **#Wellness:** Being your best self means caring for your physical and mental wellbeing, we offer lots of resources to help you along the way. **#Leave:** We support you with leave when you need it, including 5 days of wellness leave each year and 10 days of sick leave from day 1. **#Social:** Nothing beats getting together to have some fun and celebrate our success.
