Porirua City is a great place to live, work and raise a family, with significant growth and opportunities. We're upgrading our infrastructure, connecting our city and managing how we grow. We're developing and creating a resilient, liveable city for our future generations and need skilled people like you to help make it all happen. About the role This is a role where your technical expertise, communication skills, and sound judgement will make a tangible difference every day. You'll work across our team to deliver high-quality, legally robust monitoring and enforcement advice, and you'll play a key part in supporting responsible development, safeguarding our natural environment, and building strong community relationships. In this role, you will: * Mentor colleagues, guide internal stakeholders, and collaborate with external partners. * Monitor compliance with resource consent conditions and conduct inspections. * Communicate clearly with consent holders, landowners, builders and subcontractors to ensure they understand requirements and outcomes. * Design and deliver proactive education programmes to lift compliance and reduce environmental impacts, including improved silt and sediment controls. * Investigate complaints, gather evidence, and take enforcement action where required. * Maintain accurate records, reports and databases — supporting citywide planning and national reporting obligations. * Participate in enforcement hearings and make sound recommendations on remedial steps or prosecution. * Work closely with our Planning and Policy teams on environmental monitoring and standards. About you You're someone who goes the extra mile, enjoys solving complex problems, and brings a big-picture view to planning and risk. You take responsibility for your work, support your team, and never stop learning. Whether educating builders on better practice, facilitating between parties, or engaging with complainants and consent holders, your communication style will be professional, respectful and outcomes-focused. You'll need to show us that you have: * Several years' experience in a similar compliance, monitoring or enforcement role (a tertiary qualification in Resource Management or Planning is an advantage). * Solid working knowledge of the Resource Management Act, Local Government Act, District Plans and other relevant legislation. * Strong ability to interpret technical plans and assess development activity. * A clear, confident communicator who can adapt your style to different audiences and influence positive behaviours. * Outstanding record-keeping and digital literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft 365 and database systems. * A calm, professional manner — even under pressure — and the ability to manage sensitive information with the highest level of confidentiality. * A collaborative, customer-focused mindset, balanced with the judgement to take decisive enforcement action when required. * Physical capability to undertake site visits and investigations, and a current unrestricted NZ driver licence. * Commitment to health and safety, diversity, and the Treaty of Waitangi.
