What you'll do: * Lead programmes for migratory fish (tuna, kanakana, īnanga, and potentially one additional species) and biosecurity threats (koi carp, gambusia, rudd, hornwort). * Work in partnership with whānau, hapū, and iwi to co-design restoration initiatives that uphold the Ngāi Tahu Claims Settlement Act 1998 and Te Mana o te Wai - National Policy Statement for Freshwater 2020. * Plan, deliver, and report on freshwater biodiversity programmes, including species surveys, monitoring, and habitat management. * Provide expert advice on freshwater conservation within statutory processes such as the Conservation Act and RMA. * Undertake fieldwork across the Southern South Island Region, including night-time fish surveys. Checkpoint Team Leader

We are seeking an experienced people leader who is looking to take the next step in their career towards a supervisory role. Our Log Checkpoint is a Monday to Friday operation that receives and measures logs at the port arriving via truck. All logs coming through the Checkpoint are measured or "scaled" using an international standard and each log is tracked on its journey. The Checkpoint Team Leader oversees a team of Checkpoint Processors who perform these duties. The person we seek will be someone who enjoys responsibility and hands on leadership. You will be someone who likes motivating and getting the best out of others by fostering a good team culture and building positive morale. The ideal candidate will have previous checkpoint operations experience (although not essential) and be keen to take on the responsibility of training staff to achieve an NZQA qualification in Log Scaling. Duties of this role will also include assisting with the delivery of an efficient and quality service to our customers. The following skills and qualities are also required in this role: ? Mo te tunga | About the role We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Dairy Farm Instructor at Otago Corrections Facility (OCF). Prison industries provide people in prison with meaningful engagement and equip them with valuable work experience and skills for the future. They are an important part of working towards reintegration and can increase chances of obtaining successful employment on release. Industries are also critical in providing essential services for the operation of the prison. The OCF Farm is a 130-hectare dairy farm which supports a herd of 360 cows and produces 120,000 KG of milk solids annually for Fonterra. As an Instructor on the farm, you will oversee daily milking, whilst training people in prison across a range of general and dairy specific duties. The training you provide will enable them to achieve NZQA unit standards linked to the dairy industry and provide a platform of good working habits to take forward to the future. Instructors have the same classification as Corrections Officers and, as such, complete the same initial training courses. This will involve on-site training as well as 5 weeks residential training at our National Learning Centre in Upper Hutt, Wellington, to focus on the custodial elements of the position. The hours of work will be on a shift basis of 87 hours per fortnight. The shifts are 10-hour shifts and are typically from 6.00 am until 16.00 pm however some flexibility is required in accordance with the farm's operational needs. Weekend work is required with every second weekend being rostered off. Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and experience We are interested in hearing from people who possess: * Solid experience in dairy farming (minimum 3 seasons managing/ 2ic dairy farm experience). * An NZQA level 4 dairy qualification (desirable but not essential). * The ability to motivate and develop people within a team environment. * The ability to remain positive and resilient in challenging situations. * Exceptional communication skills and the ability to develop solid relationships with a range of stakeholders. * The ability to work effectively with different cultures including working in a Te ao Maori space. * Outstanding health and safety practices. * Experience as an Adult Educator or NZAQ Assessor (4098) is an advantage. * A full NZ driver licence (or be eligible to obtain one). If successful at interview stage, you will be required to complete a full disclosure criminal history check (clean slate does not apply so please declare any convictions in your application), pre-employment medical, physical and drug testing as a part of the recruitment process. About the Job Log scaling is an NZQA accredited job, where a structured training programme can gain you a recognised qualification. You don't need previous experience in this type of role either as training is provided. The Checkpoint is a facility where logging trucks come to have their logs measured and ticketed ready for export. The Log Scaler manually "scales" or measures each log using an international standard, then barcodes the log and scans it into our system so that every single log can be tracked wherever it is. The Checkpoint is a team environment where the safety of our staff is paramount. Shifts can be up to 12 hours in length between the houurs of 0500am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday, with some occasional weekend work. You will need to be flexible with working hours as shift times can vary. On offer is casual employment. About you You will be the kind of person who likes to be accurate when taking measurements, with good attention to detail. You will also enjoy communicating with truck drivers and members of your team. This is an active outdoor role that requires you to meet deadlines and also be ok on your feet for most of your shift. You will also be confident operating scanning equipment and preferably hold a full class 1 licence.
