Summer Ambassador (Queenstown & Wanaka) Contract: Mid November 2025 to Late April 2026 Location: Queenstown Events Centre (QEC) / W?naka Recreation Centre (WRC) based Do you love the outdoors, enjoy connecting with people from all walks of life, and want a role that lets you explore our beautiful region? Join us this summer as a Summer Ambassador helping visitors camp responsibly and enjoy the district safely. Key Accountabilities / Rakatirataka If a desk job isn't for you, then this job might just be!  Our Summer Ambassadors work hard (rain or shine!) educating campers and visitors on sustainable camping practices, providing feedback about camping areas across the district, keeping our reserves clean and free from litter, collecting data on visitors, reporting issues, and assisting with communication to enforcement officers as required.  This role promotes and supports the Tiaki Promise. To learn more visit tiakinewzealand.com   While camping education is an important focus, the role also involves providing important summer safety messages to all visitors, including water safety, water usage, alcohol restrictions, reserve closures and much more.  You'll take a community-focused approach to work and be friendly and helpful by nature. You thrive working outdoors in our beautiful district and take an interest in the environment, sustainability and tourism. This is a seasonal role working full-time 38 hours a week, 4 days a week. Shifts will be 7.00am - 5.00pm or 10.00am - 8.00pm with an emphasis on engaging with campers before they set off for the day. Weekend and Public Holiday work will be required.   Role Responsibilities  * Engage and educate campers about the 'dos and don'ts' of camping in our district with a focus on encouraging compliance with local rules and sustainable camping practices. * Routine litter collections - keep our reserves looking clean and tidy! * Work with the communications and engagement team to provide friendly and helpful information to all visitors, including sharing up-to-date summer safety and warning information.  * Work with Emergency Management Otago to support education and response coordination for any emergency events that could impact visitors to our region, particularly campers.  * Promote local businesses that provide commercial camping grounds or holiday parks.  * Distribute leaflets and other sources of information to campers, local information centers, commercial businesses or community hubs. * Collect data on campers by conducting visitor surveys. * Monitor campers' compliance around the district, reporting back findings to council officers. * Responding to community requests for signage or education opportunities. * Submit regular reports detailing your findings and experiences to the Responsible Camping Programme Manager, including detailing interactions and photographs where appropriate. Adhere to QLDC's Code of Conduct.    Skills & Experience / Matauraka Education  To best succeed in this role, you'll have a passion for the environment and sustainability, be a confident and friendly communicator and possess a good knowledge of the Queenstown Lakes District and its history.  Experience  * Experience in customer relations with outstanding communication skills and the ability to relate well to a diverse range of people * A good knowledge of the Queenstown Lake's natural and cultural history and heritage * Ability to clearly convey key messaging to our district's visitors, including safety information * An enthusiasm for the outdoors and sustainability * Be a 'self-starter' with the ability to work independently and in a small team * Computer and technology literate Requirements: * Full NZ Driver License * Eligible to work in New Zealand (citizen, resident, or open work visa) * Ability to pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol test * First Aid certificate and additional language skills are desirable, not essential How to Apply Please email your updated CV and cover letter to:kayla.tareha@onestaff.co.nz Or apply via the link below.   Due to high application volumes, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
