Description

We’re a niche, award winning, creative design studio and workshop located in sunny Whakatāne. Our team of 12 consists of designers, craftsmen and support staff that work with clients big and small on unique projects nationwide. While we still do work on the standard mix of projects spanning web, graphic design, print and signage, our speciality is in cultural and heritage interpretation and storytelling. We also partner with artists on the design and manufacture of sculpture, cultural art, and placemaking. We are values driven and think we’ve earnt a solid reputation for quality and ability over the past 40 years. We’re on the hunt for either/or an exceptionally talented intermediate designer, or a battle-proven senior designer to join our small, but tight team. We can guarantee you will be exposed to a unique and exciting array of projects, people and places whilst exploring and pushing creative boundaries. Experience and skills or a strong desire to grow in the Wayfinding Design, Cultural and Heritage Storytelling and Placemaking space is a must. We often work as a team in collaboration so interpersonal communication skills and an ability to put any ego aside for the best outcome for the project at hand is critical. The one to join us must… * Be borderline OCD regarding attention to detail. We don’t do sloppy. * Have 8+ years’ experience as a professional Designer (or convince us that you are a design savant we should take a chance on). 5+ years for a talented intermediate designer. * Present a truly next level portfolio across, digital, print and web, that clearly illustrates you’ve ‘been through the fire’ and did it with style. * Have a deep knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and proven understanding of brand, visual identity, and publication design. * Be experienced in managing projects, budgets, client meetings, and juggling deadlines. * Have genuinely strong communication skills - visual, verbal, and written. * Live, or willing to move, within reasonable travelling distance to Whakatāne/Ōhope. * Bonus points for the following non-critical (teachable) but highly desirable attributes: Skills and strong experience working with artists, te ao Māori, co-design, Squarespace website builder know-how, designing for manufacture (including CNC), Materials knowledge and specification, Signage design, 3D Modelling software expertise, CAD, Landscape design, Experience leading creative teams, and/or skills for in-person presentations to clients. If you have all of the above then we’ll make a whole new role! We offer a chill work environment with nice people working on super rewarding and unique projects. Your work with us will undoubtably provide you with professional growth and experience where high-end design meets culture and manufacture. If you are a good fit for the above then please respond, including a cover letter expressly addressing this advert along with your portfolio. We intend running this advert until we find the right person for the role as opposed to specifying a definitive closing date. We will respond to applicants weekly (or as soon as possible). Renumeration based on skills.
