About the Role Looking for your next big opportunity? We’ve got an exciting Lead BI Analyst Programmer role just for you! In this position, you’ll get to help keep our critical digital platforms running smoothly for the teams delivering essential services across Aotearoa, making a real impact. Provide advice, guidance and expertise in shaping BI strategy, semantic layer architecture and data modelling frameworks aligned to good governance and practice. Build and maintain high-quality BI assets using SQL, DAX and Power Query, with a strong focus on optimisation, reusability and performance. Own reusable semantic models and datasets, improving scalability and consistency of definitions and reporting outcomes across teams. Drive testing/debugging of BI solutions against technical specifications, ensuring accuracy, reliability and fit-for-purpose delivery. Create and maintain strong documentation (data definitions, lineage, models, requirements, operational procedures and end-user guidance). Identify improvement opportunities — reducing manual processes and duplicated datasets — and help the business lift data quality and ownership. Work collaboratively as part of a team, while also taking ownership and progressing tasks without constant supervision. Qualifications and Skills We’re looking for someone who blends strong technical depth with a pragmatic, team-first mindset - someone who can deliver with minimal guidance and bring others along on the journey. 5+ years’ experience in Business Intelligence or Analytics. Advanced Power BI expertise, including data modelling, performance optimisation, and reusable semantic models. Strong SQL, DAX and Power Query capability, delivering clean, scalable transformation logic. Proven experience with Microsoft Fabric or similar modern data platforms, with solid understanding of lakehouse/warehouse/pipeline concepts. Strong grasp of Medallion architecture and its application to governed, reusable analytics foundations. Deep knowledge of BI and data management principles: governance, standardised metrics, validation rules, lineage and data quality. Demonstrated ownership and accountability — able to prioritise, deliver independently, and keep stakeholders informed. Effective collaborator across business teams, technical specialists, vendors and application SMEs. Excellent documentation skills, producing clear specifications, models, definitions and operational artefacts. Who are we?
