This role requires a keen eye for detail, precision in sewing, and the ability to perform basic maintenance on sewing machines. The Industrial Sewing Machinist is an integral part of the manufacturing team, ensuring the high-quality production of canvas-based products. Key Responsibilities: * Sewing Canvas Products: Operate industrial sewing machines to sew canvas materials in accordance with specific instructions and patterns. * Fabric Cutting: Measure, cut, and prepare canvas materials for sewing, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in material usage. * Pattern and Design: Follow patterns, blueprints, or design specifications to create canvas products that meet quality and aesthetic standards. * Stitching Techniques: Use a variety of stitching techniques, such as lockstitch, zigzag, and overlock, to achieve the desired seams and finishes * Quality Assurance: Inspect finished products for defects, inconsistencies, or imperfections and make necessary adjustments to maintain high product quality. * Measurements: Verify the dimensions, sizes, and other specifications of canvas products to ensure they meet quality standards. * Repair and Alterations: Perform necessary repairs or alterations to canvas products as required * Machine Setup: Set up and thread industrial sewing machines, ensuring correct tension and settings for various canvas materials. * Routine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on sewing machines, such as cleaning, oiling, and replacing parts, to ensure they operate efficiently. * Troubleshooting: Identify and address minor issues with sewing machines to minimize downtime and maintain production flow. * Report Maintenance Needs: Report major machine issues to the maintenance department for timely repair and maintenance * Canvas Types: Be knowledgeable about different types of canvas materials, including weights, coatings, and blends, and how they impact sewing techniques. * Thread Selection: Choose appropriate threads for different canvas materials, considering factors such as durability and appearance * Adhere to Safety Guidelines: Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment, including the use of safety equipment and practices. * Emergency Response: Be aware of emergency procedures and protocols in case of accidents or equipment malfunctions Role requirements: * 2 years relevant work experience * Proficiency in operating various industrial sewing machines. * Strong knowledge of canvas materials, including different types and characteristics. * Attention to detail and the ability to maintain high product quality. * Basic machine maintenance skills and troubleshooting abilities. * Familiarity with safety protocols and practices in a manufacturing environment. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team * Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test * Must have a clean police report with no charges pending If you are a motivated and skilled Industrial Sewing Machinist who is ready to take your career to the next level, we want to hear from you. ## Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Process Worker to join our sawmill team based in central Kaitaia. **We have 5 vacancies to fill with start dates of early August 2025**. The individuals in these role will play a crucial part in the manufacturing process and will be responsible for ensuring the quality and efficiency of our production. ## Responsibilities - Operate and monitor machinery in the sawmill to process raw materials - Maintain a clean and safe work environment - Collaborate with team members to optimize production processes - Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures - Perform quality checks and report any issues to supervisors ## Qualifications - Proven experience in a manufacturing or production environment - Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding setting - Strong attention to detail and quality - Willingness to work in shifts, including nights and possible weekends - Familiarity with operating machinery and tools - Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to regulations ## Day-to-day - Operating and monitoring machinery in the sawmill - Collaborating with team members to optimize processes - Ensuring a clean and safe work environment - Performing quality checks and reporting issues.
