8This stunning piece is by celebrated local potter Paul Melser, who established his first pottery in Wellington in around 1960. He is currently based in Carterton, where he has worked since 1974. This impressive platter at 400mm x 300 mm could equally serve as a tray. He describes his pottery as derived from a “tradition that came to New Zealand as a fusion of the Japanese Mingei (Folk Art) and English craft traditions through Bernard Leach.” The value both traditions place on the enjoyment of beautiful and functional objects in daily life can clearly be seen here in this outstanding piece. There is no damage at all to note. If you (like me) are a Paul Melser pottery fan please get in touch as I do have three other plates that are also available but as yet unlisted. Please look closely at the photographs as they form part of the description. If you have any questions, please get in touch. Please have a look at my other listings of antique and vintage pieces. If you’d like a quote for postage please get in touch. We are always happy to combine purchases to save on postage. Save eldercroftnsons as a favourite seller for new listings of antique and vintage treasures every week. While this can be sent - it is large, heavy and fragile so delivery is definitely the best option, if possible. I'm happy to deliver in the Wellington area for free in the southern and eastern suburbs (Island Bay, Lyall Bay, Kilbirnie, Seatoun, Miramar etc) or for $5 in northern and western suburbs.
