What do you love about farming? We are looking for a grunty shepherd or shepherd general to assist us through our peak spring workload. These fixed term, drive-in roles will be a great way to get your foot in the door. Or maybe you are a casual looking to fill in the winter lull and guaranteed hours through until spring would fit the ticket. You will love the days that go well. The dogs muster like they’re telepathic and the lambs flow like they are just as keen as us to see what they weigh. The bulls load like magic on to the truck. The hill country is lush and green, and the rocket fuel on the flats is pumping. But it’s farming - it won’t be all sunshine, rainbows, and unicorns. There will be days where you wonder if this is the life for you. And that’s why we want people who love farming, who can’t imagine doing anything else. Because you get up the next day, put yesterday behind you, and embrace the chance to do it all over again. You are driven to improve. You are just like us. At Brownrigg Agriculture our livestock business is centred around winter lamb finishing and a flexible bull beef policy, with some Angus breeding cows floating around to take on the tough country. You won’t see any breeding ewes in this job! A mix of hill and easy to flat country means our livestock enterprise is well balanced. Our farming programme relies on high quality feed to drive animal performance, with lucerne, kale, and winter annual grasses providing the high-octane fuel. Our structure focuses on creating opportunities for people to progress in our business. We are committed to helping you develop your career. When you grow, we do too. Whatever your circumstances, you will already have a couple of years’ experience under your belt. For the General role, you will have a couple of huntaways under good control, and for a Shepherd hopefully a team of 4-5 well controlled dogs. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and loves to get stuck in. You will be a good communicator and have a positive, practical approach. To the right candidate, we can offer: • Competitive remuneration • Exposure to innovative farming practices • The chance to join a progressive business full of passionate and knowledgeable people To be successful in this role you will have: • A love of farming! • At least two years sheep and beef farming experience • A passion for finishing systems • A good team of 2-5 working dogs • Strong stockmanship • A commitment to safety Brownrigg Agriculture is a progressive farming business with operations across livestock and cropping, based at Poukawa, 20 minutes south of Hastings, Hawke’s Bay.
