Are you our new Jim? Jim was our Fencer / Shepherd General, and we valued what he brought to our team. What we liked about Jim: * He was a skilled fencer but not a fencing snob – he could put together an immaculate new fenceline but he was pragmatic and knew that sometimes stuff just needed to get done. * He worked well on his own, keeping on track with minimal supervision, with a great work ethic. * He worked well with others, supporting our farm operations with a positive outlook and would go with the flow but take ownership of his contribution. * Although he was mostly a fencer, he would step into assisting with livestock duties to the best of his abilities – and he did it without complaint (we reckon he secretly enjoyed the change). What we didn’t like about Jim: * He had to leave. Brownrigg Agriculture is a progressive farming business with operations across livestock and cropping, based at Poukawa, 20 minutes south of Hastings, Hawke’s Bay. We farm at scale with a livestock platform of about 5,500ha. Livestock, cropping, post-harvest facilities, exporting produce - our business offers opportunities you would not see elsewhere. We are looking for a new “Jim” – a skilled Fencer / Shepherd General. You would be based in our Farm Support team, working across all of our blocks. While there may be some new fence work, the majority of your time would be spent on replacing or repairing existing fences. We have a mix of conventional and permanent electric fences across our blocks, with subdivision a key driver of farm performance. If you have fencing skills but have not had much exposure to the livestock operations side of things, we can help you develop that skillset. You will be experienced using a tractor-mounted post rammer (we have a Kinghitter rammer on a Case tractor) and know your limits when operating it on hill country. You will take pride in the work you do, and champion safe work behaviours. A bit of banter will come naturally but work is work and you are a professional. In return, we can offer: * Competitive remuneration. * The chance to join a progressive business full of passionate and knowledgeable people. * A high level of autonomy. * A chance to really make a difference in a farming operation. Our main base is located 20 minutes south of Hastings and about 10 minutes north of Waipawa. This close proximity gives opportunities for those with families and singles alike, with a wide ranging of schooling, sports, social, and outdoor pursuits nearby, along with employment opportunities for partners. GET YOUR APPLICATIONS IN NOW as we will be conducting rolling interviews as the right candidates apply.
