About the Role
We are looking for a highly organized and proactive Dispatcher to act as the logistical hub of our operations. In this fast-paced role, you will be responsible for coordinating the daily delivery schedule for our fleet of four HIAB trucks and two tipper trucks, as well as managing external contracted carriers.
You will be the vital link between our sales team, the yard, our drivers, and our customers, ensuring that everything from standard building products to large pre-nailed frames arrives safely, efficiently, and on time.
Key Responsibilities
• Fleet Coordination: Plan, route, and schedule daily deliveries for our three in-house HIAB trucks to maximize efficiency and meet customer deadlines.
• Carrier Management: Coordinate and book external contracted carriers for overflow, specialized freight, or out-of-town deliveries.
• Product Handling: Specifically manage the logistics for transporting bulky and fragile items, including building products and pre-nailed frames, ensuring appropriate vehicles (like HIABs) are allocated correctly.
• Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for drivers on the road. Liaise constantly with the yard staff for loading times, and keep the sales team and customers updated on delivery ETAs or delays.
• Problem Solving: React quickly to last-minute urgent orders, site access issues, traffic delays, or vehicle breakdowns, adjusting schedules on the fly.
• Administration & Compliance: Ensure all delivery dockets, dispatch logs, and compliance paperwork (including health and safety requirements for site deliveries) are accurate and up to date.
Skills & Qualifications
• Experience: Proven experience in dispatch, logistics, transport coordination, or a similar fast-paced operational role.
• Industry Knowledge: Previous experience in the building supplies, timber, or construction industry is highly highly desirable.
• Technical Understanding: Familiarity with HIAB operations and the specific requirements for loading/unloading building materials and pre-nailed frames.
• Local Knowledge: Excellent geographical knowledge of the local and surrounding regions to optimize route planning.
• Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to manage customer expectations firmly but politely.
• Tech-Savvy: Comfortable using dispatch software, inventory management systems, and standard office applications.
• Under Pressure: A cool head. The ability to juggle multiple moving parts, prioritize effectively, and make quick decisions in a high-pressure environment.
