About the role As a Senior Data Engineer you will assist the development of network intelligence and transition to the smart flexible distribution network of the future, enabling WEL to realise its ambition of becoming a Distribution System Operator (DSO). You will also lead the network innovation data solution development, accelerating the adoption of a data-driven decision-making process, enabling WEL to operate as a DSO. What you'll bring: * Relevant tertiary qualification in Data Engineering, Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field, with basic knowledge in engineering * Qualifications in Database Management or Electrical Engineering is desired * A minimum of five years relevant industry experience * Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and formatting, Python for data analysis, and data integration tools * Experience in time-series and event-based data applications, utility network asset connectivity models, and platforms such as OSI Aveva PI and Snowflake * Understanding of data architecture principles and design patterns Join us We offer a competitive salary, flexible working, comprehensive wellbeing benefits, and a supportive team culture. About the Role You’ll be part of our Professional Services team, delivering impactful data projects for customers across a range of industries. You’ll: Design and implement modern data platforms using Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Data Factory, Power BI, and Purview. Build scalable ETL pipelines using Spark, Python, and other modern tools. Work directly with clients to understand their needs and deliver high-value, billable outcomes. Requirements Must-Have Requirements To be a match for this role, you’ll need to demonstrate: Demonstrate recent (1–3 years) experience in Data Engineering using Databricks or Microsoft Fabric. Strong experience in modern cloud engineering with a clear preference for Azure. (We’re a Microsoft-only partner, so experience in other clouds is welcome, but you’ll need to show a willingness and ability to work in Azure.) Proven experience with Azure Purview, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Power BI, or their equivalents. Experience building cloud systems that wrangle raw data and surface it for reporting or AI workloads. Solid ETL/data integration skills using Spark, Python, or similar tools. A background in consulting or professional services, with the ability to manage multiple client deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills and confidence working directly with clients. High learning agility and the ability to problem-solve across a range of data domains. Ability to explain technical solutions to non-technical audiences. This role involves ensuring preparation/completion of large projects to appropriate quality standards within time/cost constraints as well as meeting contractual requirements and company budget requirements. The Programme Manager is responsible for the establishment and management of ongoing delivery outcomes under a programme of work and all projects within it. This role ensures the programme is maintained at the level of quality, along with applicable value management models, required to meet all contractual requirements against the agreed standards. Working with software projects and delivering streams of tech you will have a solid understanding of data and integration, security and authentication within Microsoft .Net environments and exposure to other techs such as Adobe, or Camunda, would be a bonus. Requirements Duties Given the nature of the IT industry and the variety of challenging work which is involved in providing our clients and customers with competitive products and services, it is important that you experience and understand what is required in a number of different areas of the business, where possible. As a result, you may be required to carry out a variety of different roles within Datacom. • Establishing and managing effective project operations to deliver quality outcomes. • Managing a team(s) of project employees operating on the IT projects, typically in a complex, multiplatform technical environment. • Controlling project design and planning activities associated with small to medium sized applications and infrastructure development projects. • Defining, sourcing and managing necessary project resources. • Controlling project schedules to ensure that necessary modules and programs are completed according to the project plan. • Preparing project budgets, attaining necessary approvals in a timely manner and monitoring project financials and the realisation of defined project benefits. • Effectively controlling and managing the issues, risks, dependencies and changes in scope associated with IT projects. • Managing change plans and business impact assessments. • Overseeing the business continuity plan within the functional area, including; development, review & update and testing & training. • Identifying events that may impact the business continuity plan, leading to plan review and update. • Establishing, managing and reporting on project budget(s), analysing budget variances and recommending appropriate action. • Exceeding stakeholder expectations through the application of stakeholder management disciplines. • Developing and managing vendor contracts / agreements associated with projects under management. • Providing guidance and advice to subordinates within the latitude of established company policies in order to meet schedules and resolve technical problems. • Liaising with senior staff within client organisations regarding provision of computing services within negotiated contractual obligations for a program or group of projects. • Drawing up a project plan for approval by the customer. • Controlling system design and project planning activities related to large systems development. • Maintaining and controlling cost, schedule and quality of project activities to run on budget, time, and meet agreed customer requirements • Managing phases of software development including requirements analysis, system design, specification, development, testing and implementation. • Responsible for implementing a principle driven health and safety culture that cares for employees and ensures their safety in line with Datacom policy. • Takes reasonable care that their actions (or inactions) do not harm the Health and Safety of self or others.
