We have two types of fixed-term sampler roles available: * Core Samplers - Potential to work up to 6 days per week (generally 10 - 30 hours/ week) * Part-Time Samplers - Potential to work up to 4 days per week (a ‘supplementary’ role, but availability across all 7 days of the week is preferred) No experience required - full training is provided. All samplers work on an “on-call” basis with a minimum 5 hours of guaranteed work every fortnight. Join Hill Labs Sample Collection Team in a permanent role as Section Manager – Sample Collection and play a pivotal role in our Bay of Plenty operations. During the kiwifruit season (February to June), our team operates 7 days a week, collecting kiwifruit samples across the Bay of Plenty and beyond. These samples are tested in our Mount Maunganui lab to help ensure top-quality fruit reaches global markets. This is not your average desk job. You’ll be leading from the front—planning, coordinating, and rolling up your sleeves alongside your team. Outside of the kiwifruit season (July-January) is all about reviewing the season that’s been and preparing for the next one. You’ll have the chance to have some downtime before jumping into recruitment. About the role Step into the role of Skipper aboard the San Tangaroa, one of Sanford's dedicated deepwater scampi vessels. Operating out of Timaru, the San Tangaroa targets scampi on voyages up to six weeks long, primarily fishing in areas like the Chatham Rise and around the Auckland and Chatham Islands. All scampi is landed, processed, frozen, and packed at sea, and delivered to Sanford's Bluff and Timaru sites. We are currently seeking an experienced Skipper, with the vessel due to depart on 9 September 2025 (subject to change). This position may suit either an experienced Skipper looking for a new challenge or a confident Second Mate/1st Mate ready to take the next step. This is an Independent Contractor (self-employed) role on a 4-6 weeks on / 4-6 weeks off rotation. Sanford covers return travel expenses from your hometown to Timaru or Invercargill. Key Responsibilities * Fish within the designated quota area according to the voyage catch plan, adapting plans as needed with company approval. * Follow all company regulations and New Zealand laws, ensuring all operations comply with company standards, MPI, MOSS and MNZ legislation. * Supervise appointed crew members adhering to the minimum crewing levels and the company standards. * Ensure all crew members are trained for efficient and safe operations. * Coordinate with the Vessel Manager for fuel, provisions, and fishing gear from approved suppliers. Maintain and repair the vessel at sea as needed and oversee any necessary repairs during port visits. * Operate the vessel continuously, weather permitting, to maximise both the quality and quantity of the catch and ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the crew and vessel. * Maintain daily communication with the shore-based team, providing updates on required information. Keep detailed logs and records, ensuring compliance with Company and legal requirements.
