We are building calm, professional, systems-led kitchens that deliver consistent food quality, strong financial performance, and a great place to work. We are seeking an experienced Kitchen Manager to take full responsibility for the leadership and performance of our kitchen. This is a senior role suited to someone who enjoys leading people, running structured systems, and holding high standards every day. About the Role As Kitchen Manager, you will be responsible for the overall operation of the kitchen, including people leadership, food quality, financial performance, and compliance. This is a full-time, permanent position, working a minimum of 35 hours per week on a rostered basis, including weekends and public holidays. Your ordinary hours of work will be 35 hours per week, normally rostered between 9am to 10 pm over 7 days, Monday to Sunday, or at times agreed between us to meet the needs of the business up to a maximum of 60 hours per week in summer peak. Note that in winter this is mainly a day-time business and role. Key Responsibilities · To build a strong, transparent and accountable relationship with the owner · Lead, manage, and develop the kitchen team · Maintain consistent food quality, presentation, and portion control · To oversee all kitchen systems and to ensure menu engineering, accurate costings, recipes, and procedures are followed and kept up to date · Manage kitchen financial performance, including COGS, Wages, and Gross Profit · Complete accurate ordering, stock control, and waste management · Prepare and publish cost-effective, skill-balanced rosters · Ensure full compliance with food safety, health, and safety requirements · Coaching the entire kitchen team in The Apple Shed Operating System · Work closely with Front of House management to deliver excellent guest experiences What We are Looking for · A Level 5 National Diploma in Hospitality (Kitchen Management) OR a minimum of 3 years' experience in kitchen management · Proven ability to lead, train, and hold kitchen teams accountable · Strong understanding of kitchen financial management: COGS, Wages, GP · Calm, organised, and systems-focused under pressure · Strong communication and teamwork skills · A leader who can lead with confidence, uphold standards and model professionalism, even under intense pressure · A growth-oriented mindset, someone who strives for excellence and consistency · Able to work a flexible roster including weekends and public holidays What We Offer · Competitive, market-aligned salary based on experience · Stable, full-time employment · Structured onboarding and clear expectations · A values-led, professional kitchen culture · Opportunities to grow and develop as the business continues to evolve Eligibility Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand or meet the requirements for an Accredited Employer Work Visa.
