Are you an experienced mechanical professional with a solid background in pumps, motors, and gear drives? We're looking for a Mechanical Lead to oversee rotating equipment maintenance for our clients across the Wellington region.
This is a hands-on leadership role - ideal for someone with a trade background who enjoys being in the field, solving problems, and keeping critical infrastructure running at its best.
What You'll Be Doing:
* Overhauling pumps and other rotating equipment
* Installing and aligning pumps, motors, geared drives, and other rotating machinery
* Supporting installation and commissioning of other mechanical equipment
* Diagnosing faults and performing root cause analysis
* Conducting preventative and breakdown maintenance
* Collaborating with client operations teams to ensure equipment reliability and safety
* Maintaining accurate maintenance records
* Mentoring junior mechanical staff and contractors.
What You'll Bring:
* A mechanical trade qualification (e.g. Fitter Turner, Maintenance Engineer, or equivalent)
* 10+ years of practical experience with rotating equipment, ideally in water or industrial sectors
* Strong skills in alignment, vibration checks, and mechanical diagnostics
* A proactive approach with the ability to lead a small team or work independently
* Solid communication and organisational skills
* A strong commitment to health, safety, and quality
Nice to Have:
* Experience across other mechanical trades (e.g. fabrication, fitting, machining, or hydraulics)
* Knowledge of water/wastewater treatment plant equipment
* Familiarity with MS office and MS Teams
